A jar of Wildflower Honey (8oz/227g) produced on our farm in Pembrokeshire, Wales. 100% local, pure and natural.
Our bees are very much part of the team here at Brooksgrove Farm. Working from sheltered apiaries, they help to pollinate our apple and pear orchards, making them crucial to our production of cider and perry.
Whilst foraging on the farm, they are also helping us to develop acres of permanent wildflower meadows. This provides pollen and nectar for the bees, and also helps develop safe habitats for all the other species that live alongside them in the thick hedges and native woodland.
When the time comes to harvest the honey, we will only take the surplus and always ensure that the bees have enough stores to see them through the winter.
We cold extract our raw honey, coarsely filter it, and leave it unpasteurised. This gentle process offers numerous health benefits compared to its pasteurised counterparts. Firstly, it retains all the natural enzymes, antioxidants, and nutrients, including vitamins, minerals, and amino acids. These compounds contribute to its potential antibacterial, antiviral, and anti-inflammatory properties, aiding in immune function and overall well-being. Unpasteurised honey contains bee pollen, rich in protein, aiding allergy symptoms and boosting immune response.
Raw honey’s natural sugars are easily digested, offering a quick energy boost without the blood sugar spike from refined sugars. The absence of heating during processing preserves the delicate flavour profiles and aromas, enhancing the taste experience.
Furthermore, unpasteurised honey may support digestive health by promoting the growth of beneficial gut bacteria.
Overall, incorporating unpasteurised raw honey into your diet can offer a flavourful and nutrient-rich addition while potentially providing various health benefits.
Infants under one year old should avoid unpasteurised honey due to the risk of botulism.
